Wade White and his St. Albert Curling Club rink of Doug McLennan, Dan Holowaychuk and George Parsons won a couple of games with wild finishes at the Canadian senior men’s curling championship at Summerside, P.E.I., on Tuesday.

First, White scored three in the 10th end to tie Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary before stealing the winning point in 11 for a narrow 9-8 victory. In his second game, White gave up a four-ender in eight to fall behind 7-5 to Northwest Territories’ Gen Hudy, then scored three right back in the ninth and stole another point in 10 for a 9-7 triumph.

White (4-2) is in a four-way tie for third place behind Ontario’s Howard Rajala and New Brunswick’s Wayne Tallon, both 5-1. White’s only game Wednesday is against Rajala.

Meanwhile, Deb Santos lost her third straight game in the senior women’s championship, also at Summerside.

New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon stole two points in the ninth end to trip up Santos and her St. Albert rink of Jackie Rae Greening, Diana Backer and Glenna Rubin 6-3 on Tuesday.

Santos (3-3) is in a four-way tie for fifth place. She plays Ontario’s Judy Oryniak (1-5) and Manitoba’s Lois Fowler (5-1) on Wednesday.

At the world women’s curling championship in Riga, Latvia, Canada’s Rachel Homan needs to win her last four round-robin games to clinch a playoff berth.

Homan (4-3) is in a four-way tie for fourth place after edging Italy’s Diana Gaspari 7-6 and dropping an 8-4 decision to Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson on Tuesday.

Sweden and Scotland’s Eve Muirhead are tied for first place at 6-1, while Russia’s Anna Sidorova is third at 5-2.

Canada plays Germany’s Andrea Schopp (3-4) and Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni (4-3) on Wednesday and finishes round-robin play against China’s Bingyu Wang (2-5) and Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa (4-3) on Thursday.
