Edmonton’s Heather Nedohin has breezed through the Maritime rinks like a hurricane at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Nedohin trounced Newfoundland’s Stacie Devereaux 10-3 in only seven ends in her Monday night game at the Canadian women’s curling championship at Kingston, Ont., to complete a clean sweep of the East Coast teams – New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island being her first three victims.
The entire Saville Centre team, other than Nedohin (89), shot 91 per cent or better. Nedohin leads the team, which includes third Beth Iskiw, second Jessica Mair and lead Laine Peters, over the first five games with an average of 84 per cent.
The defending champions, playing as Team Canada, also defeated Quebec’s Allison Ross 12-2 in seven ends on Monday afternoon for a relatively easy day. They are tied for first place at 5-0 with Ontario’s Rachel Homan and Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones, with games against B.C.’s Kelly Scott (2-2) on Tuesday night and Jones on Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Alberta representative Kristie Moore of Grande Prairie fell to 0-4 with a 7-6 loss to Saskatchewan’s Jill Shumay. Moore got off to a good start and led 5-1 after four ends but couldn’t hang on to the lead.
